Cole Palmer is the best midfielder in the Premier League in one key area, ranks above Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne
Chelsea attacking midfielder Cole Palmer continues to put up some really impressive numbers.
This season, Cole Palmer has scored 12 goals and provided six assists in 19 Premier League appearances.
It comes after a campaign where the 22-year-old managed to come up with 33 goal contributions in as many top-flight games for Chelsea.
Palmer, though, is bringing more than just goals and assists to the table. He is truly indispensable to Enzo Maresca‘s team right now.

Cole Palmer completing more long balls than Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne
Palmer tried to help Filip Jorgensen stop Liam Delap’s penalty and prevent Chelsea from losing a second consecutive game against Ipswich Town on Monday but failed to.
Chelsea lost 2-0 on the night, but the Blues and Palmer are still having a good season. Focusing on Palmer specifically, the numbers back it up.
For example, the Englishman has completed 92 long balls in the Premier League this term, more than any other midfielder. That is also more than what teammate and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has managed and puts him in the top 10 players for that statistic.
Other talented attacking midfielders like Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne have some catching up to do!
| Player | Long balls completed |
| Cole Palmer | 92 |
| Bruno Fernandes | 75 |
| Kevin De Bruyne | 43 |
On the football pitch, there is not much that Palmer cannot do. He can shoot, pass and create to name a few of his strengths.
How Cole Palmer, Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne all compare
Palmer also trumps Fernandes and De Bruyne in other areas. Unsurprisingly, the England international has more goal contributions than the pair, though he has played significantly more minutes than the latter.
Palmer is completing more key passes per game in the Premier League than Fernandes and De Bruyne as well.
| Player | Games | Starts | Minutes | Goals | Assists | Key passes (per game) |
| Cole Palmer | 19 | 19 | 1661 | 12 | 6 | 2.7 |
| Bruno Fernandes | 18 | 18 | 1480 | 4 | 5 | 2.2 |
| Kevin De Bruyne | 8 | 4 | 736 | 2 | 2 | 2.2 |
If you are City, you will be disappointed that Palmer left the Etihad for Stamford Bridge. When you consider all of the above, it is quite clear that he could have been the perfect successor to De Bruyne, who turns 34 this year.
