Enzo Maresca full of praise for ‘very intelligent’ Chelsea player who was crucial in 3-1 win against Wolves
Enzo Maresca will have been equally parts delighted as he was relieved when Chelsea picked up a 3-1 win yesterday against Wolves.
The victory saw the Blues snap a five game run without a win, and regain their place in the top four ahead of the key game against Manchester City.
Things were certainly not perfect as far as the performance went. Robert Sanchez’s big error in the first half let Wolves back into the game late in the first half.

A far more controlled second half performance followed though, and two quickfire goals put them out of sight of their relegation-threatened opponents.
Enzo Maresca praises ‘very intelligent’ Marc Cucurella after Chelsea win vs Wolves
The first of those was scored by Marc Cucurella, doubling his tally in the Premier League both this season and for Chelsea.
Despite his stature and position, the Spaniard found himself popping up in the six-yard box to convert after a Noni Madueke cross was flicked on by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Adding goals to his game has just been even more arrows in Cucurella’s bow, as he continues to enjoy an excellent season at Stamford Bridge.
Maresca was full of praise for the defender after the game, praising his intelligence as the reason behind some important goals for them this season.
He said to Sky Sports: “For me, it’s more about being in the right position. It doesn’t matter if you are tall or small. The goals that he’s scored against Brentford and today were because he was in the right position. Marc is very intelligent and he’s doing fantastic with us.”
Could Cucurella be set for a position change?

As injuries and fatigue began to impact the Blues late on, Cucurella found himself featuring as an out-and-out midfielder alongside Moises Caicedo.
Maresca hinted after the game that both Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia could be out for the next game against City, and it doesn’t feel as if Dewsbury-Hall did enough to nail down his place for a second Premier League start.
There is certainly an opportunity for the Spaniard to start in midfield at the Etihad on Saturday, with Malo Gusto able to operate in the left-back role as he did after his inclusion.
It feels unlikely that Renato Veiga will feature, after he was again left out of the squad amidst talk of a move away this month.
