Enzo Maresca suggests why Renato Veiga needs to be grateful to Chelsea as manager gives update on his future
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has been speaking about Renato Veiga amid all of the speculation surrounding his future.
Renato Veiga could be leaving Chelsea this month, with the defender being strongly linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund.
It has been claimed that Veiga is keen to play as a centre-half, hence his alleged desire to depart Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old has been a bit-part player this season and has mostly been used at left-back.

Enzo Maresca tells Renato Veiga to thank Chelsea for Portugal call-ups
Since joining Chelsea from Basel last summer, Veiga has gone on to become a full Portugal international.
In total, Veiga has picked up three caps for his country, and Maresca has put that down to him performing well in different positions for Chelsea.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s game against Bournemouth, Maresca responded to the claims that Veiga now wants to play in central defence while giving an update on his future.
The Chelsea boss said: “At the moment, I am not aware that there is an agreement for Renato. Yesterday he was here working with us and today he will be here. At the moment, he is our player.
“The only thing I can say is that we bought Renato from Basel, he has played in different positions and has played well. This has allowed him to be in the senior national team for the first time in his life. Even if he is not playing in his position, it means he can do well in the position he is playing.”
Chelsea look open to selling Veiga if their valuation is met this month, despite only signing the Portugal international last July.

Renato Veiga’s minutes at centre-back this season
Not only do Maresca’s words suggest that Veiga should show a bit more gratitude to Chelsea, but they also indicate that the Italian is unlikely to fulfil his player’s desire.
As of now, Veiga has made just two appearances at centre-back in a blue shirt, amassing 180 minutes in total, according to Transfermarkt.
He wants that number to increase, but you just cannot see it happening. Levi Colwill is undroppable in the eyes of Maresca, who has started him in all but one Premier League fixture this term, while Veiga has not even got a real shot in the absence of Wesley Fofana.
Maresca preferred 18-year-old Josh Acheampong over him in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace. Perhaps that and the links to Palace’s Marc Guehi were the final straw for him. Guehi is one defender Chelsea could move for this month.
