The two big goals Chelsea have internally set themselves for 2025 - journalist

Even though Chelsea finished 2024 with a few negative results, the club has moved into the new calendar year with plenty of reasons to be positive.

There have been plenty of hurdles since the Chelsea owners purchased the club two and a half years ago, but you could argue things are currently at an all-time high under them.

Most importantly, Enzo Maresca has knitted everything together on and off the pitch since he took charge as the Blues manager in the summer.

At the halfway point in the season, Chelsea sits fourth in the Premier League table. Can they now kick on and make 2025 a special year for them?

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill reiterated they’re not in a title race and there’s plenty for the team to improve on.

Chelsea’s internal targets for 2025

Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has claimed via BBC Sport that Chelsea have two internal goals they want to achieve in 2025.

It is explained that the Blues are hungry to qualify for the Champions League for the first time under the Boehly-Clearlake ownership. As it stands, Maresca’s side are on course to do that, but the top-four race is beginning to hot up.

The second goal is to lift silverware, with their biggest chance to win a trophy coming in the form of the Conference League, where they’ve cruised through the group stages into the knockout rounds.

Apparently, if Chelsea achieve the two goals above, the Stamford Bridge hierarchy will be relatively happy. They feel they are ‘on course’ to do just that, too.

Everton’s Sean Dyche showered Chelsea boss Maresca with praise for the job he’s done so far in West London. In particular, it’s been so impressive how he’s knitted everything together in what’s been a difficult environment in recent times.

Will Chelsea finish in the top four?

Chelsea are without a win in their last three games, which has seen them become sucked into the top-four race.

The key for the Blues is not to blow a positive first half of the season because they’re still such a long way to go. If they look over their shoulder, they’ll see they’re being chased down by the likes of Newcastle United and Manchester City.

Key:

Position 1 – 4 : Champions League
Position 5 : UEFA Europa League
Position 18 – 20 : Relegation

Chelsea would’ve taken this position at this stage before a ball was kicked this season, but the expectation has risen on this young group under Maresca.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the head coach navigates the league in the second half of the season while also trying to win the Conference League tournament.
