What Wolves forward Matheus Cunha said about Chelsea back in August as he's linked with January move
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea team hasn’t struggled to find the back of the net in the first half of the season, but there’s still transfer speculation linking them to several different attackers.
The January window is now open for business, so it’ll be interesting to see if Chelsea do add any new faces.
Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu are competing for the No.9 position in the Blues squad this season, with the former coming out on top as the first choice. Many supporters feel like they could still do with signing another forward, though.

Chelsea linked with Wolves star Matheus Cunha
Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Matheus Cunha, 25, is one exciting player linked with a potential move to Stamford Bridge in 2025.
Chelsea are among the clubs interested in signing Cunha, even though Wolves are hoping to keep him at Molineux Stadium with a new contract offer. As well as the Blues interest, the Brazilian frontman is also on the radar of Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham, Manchester City, Napoli, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and AC Milan.
In 19 Premier League appearances this season, Cunha has scored 10 goals and created four assists for a struggling Wolves side.
| Player | Club | Appearances | Goals |

| Alexander Isak | Newcastle United | 17 | 12 |

| Matheus Cunha | Wolverhampton Wanderers | 19 | 10 |
What Matheus Cunha previously said about Chelsea
The transfer speculation of Chelsea targeting Cunha hasn’t advanced any further yet since this week’s rumours, but it’s interesting to highlight what the player said earlier in the season.
Back in August 2024, Cunha described Chelsea as an “unbelievably big club” before Wolves hosted them in a league match, which the visitors won emphatically by a 6-2 scoreline.
When discussing Chelsea via Wolves’ official website, Cunha said: “Everyone knows it’s an unbelievably big club and they have unbelievable players.”
For any Chelsea supporters dreaming of signing the Wolves talisman, the comments above will be music to their ears. Chelsea were offered the chance to sign Cunha back in 2022 when he was still an Atletico Madrid player, but he ended up making the switch to the West Midlands.
It’s obvious that the Wolves attacker has the physical and technical attributes to play at the highest level, so it’ll be interesting to see how long it takes for a suitor to come calling with a serious transfer offer.
