Chelsea striker set to 'undergo medical' with new club despite ongoing injury crisis - Fabrizio Romano

Chelsea are undergoing somewhat of an injury crisis in the attacking areas right now, with it beginning to make an impact on their domestic season.

The Blues are without a fit first team striker in their ranks following injuries to Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu, with neither expected to return for at least a few weeks.

Enzo Maresca has deployed Christopher Nkunku in the number nine role in recent games, however this has not seen him anywhere near his best.

Chelsea youngster Deivid Washington set for medical with Santos

The boss could look to his youngsters soon, although there is one player who he made it clear would not be given the opportunity.

Deivid Washington has had zero opportunities for the first team this season, with Maresca saying Washington wasn’t under consideration due to him being in talks over a move away.

Santos have been keen on signing the Brazilian on loan for the rest of the season, however the deal wasn’t completed before he went off to represent his country at the U20 South American Championships.

Now though, Fabrizio Romano has stated that the youngster is set to undergo his medical in the next few days with the deal set to go through.

He said: “Deivid Washington will undergo medicals in the next days to join Santos on loan from Chelsea, as planned since January.

“Documents in place as Chelsea saved a spot for Deivid’s loan considered key for his development.”

Chelsea have a limit on the amount of players they can loan to overseas sides. Joao Felix and Renato Veiga filled up more of those spots in January.

However, they reached their limit with Washington, meaning Aaron Anselmino was not able to complete his move to Marseille.

The youngster moved to Stamford Bridge early from Boca Juniors, and has now got six months where he is unlikely to play first team football.

Anselmino enjoyed a comfortable debut for the U21s recently against Liverpool, with him looking set for action with them in the upcoming weeks.
