Frank Leboeuf makes prediction about 'clumsy' Cole Palmer after latest Chelsea performance, Mohamed Salah point made

Frank Leboeuf described Chelsea’s Cole Palmer as “quite clumsy” after his latest performance in the win over Southampton.

It’s been pretty clear for a long time now that Cole Palmer is head and shoulders above everyone else in the Chelsea squad in terms of individual ability. In fact, the 22-year-old attacker has been the talisman since he moved to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City nearly 18 months ago.

However, Palmer is currently in uncharted territory because it’s now seven games across all competitions without scoring or assisting after he fired a blank in Tuesday night’s 4-0 victory at home to Southampton.

The England international has been in such a purple patch during his time with the Blues, particularly in the Premier League, but he’s lacking end product in the past month.

Following Chelsea’s big win over Southampton, Palmer insisted he’d rediscover his form in a promise to supporters.

Frank Leboeuf predicts Cole Palmer to rediscover Chelsea form

Frank Leboeuf has confidently predicted that Chelsea’s Palmer will definitely get back to his very best soon. He made the point that even the likes of Mohamed Salah, who’s scored 30 goals across all competitions this season for Liverpool, goes through goal droughts in their careers.

When discussing Chelsea star Palmer, Leboeuf told ESPN: “He’s been such an important player, scoring goal after goal, being one of the best players in the world. It’s a normal situation that at some point you will go back to some clumsiness for a player like that.

“I trust Cole Palmer to feel better very soon because he’s going to score goals. He was quite clumsy, maybe unfortunate, I think one chance [Aaron] Ramsdale made a great save. He’s going to go back to his best. He’s not going to lose his football.

“I’m sure that Mohamed Salah felt it. [Cristiano] Ronaldo felt it. Even [Lionel] Messi felt that it’s hard to score a goal for four, five, six games, whatever it can be. But that player has so much talent, so many tools in his skill that he’s going to come back to his best and do well for Chelsea.”

Palmer didn’t impress against Southampton in the most recent appearance after wasting several opportunities in front of goal. Unlike the majority of his Chelsea career, he’s finding it difficult right now with his finishing.

Cole Palmer has four games to hit form before international break

Chelsea have four fixtures remaining before March’s international break, where they can hopefully build a bit of momentum.

For Palmer, he could definitely do with a lift by ending his goal drought in the games above. Afterwards, he’ll hope to play a big part in Thomas Tuchel’s first-ever England squad for a couple of World Cup qualifiers.

Back in December, Jamie Carragher wanted England’s side built around Palmer, along with Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham. Can Three Lions boss Tuchel still do that if the Chelsea playmaker is out of form, though?
