'We really need him': Premier League manager claims his side really need Chelsea loanee to perform

Chelsea’s loanee has just been told by his current manager that he desperately needs to step up during the remainder of the season.

The Chelsea squad has been trimmed down by sending several individuals out on loan, including a mix of youngsters and experienced players.

Blues head coach Enzo Maresca did recall central defender Trevoh Chalobah from a loan spell at Crystal Palace in the winter transfer window. However, Chalobah is expected to be sold by Chelsea when the summer window comes around.

Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal need Raheem Sterling

It surprised many people when Raheem Sterling, 30, left Chelsea in the summer to join Arsenal on a season-long loan.

The English winger has struggled to make a significant impact so far at the Emirates Stadium. Due to an injury crisis in the Gunners squad, the on-loan attacker has suddenly become an important option.

Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, has issued a rallying cry by saying the Chelsea loanee needs to perform.

When asked if Sterling can still have a big impact on Arsenal’s season, Arteta told BBC Sport: “He has to have it because we really need him.

“Raheem is so experienced, and like many other players, we know that what you did yesterday is not whether it was really good or not. That could be relevant to the next game, to the next action.

“He’s fully focused, he’s trained really well this week, and he is ready to go again…

“We are all behind him, we want the best for him and and it is important that we need his best. We need players only with that mindset, to impact the team. He is doing everything that he possibly can to make it work.”

Arsenal fans haven’t been impressed by Sterling as he tries to add his experience and quality. So far this season, his contribution has been fairly minimal.

The pressure on Sterling’s shoulders should feel quite huge because Arsenal are still potential title challengers to Liverpool. Can he be the man to help them cope without injured attackers Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, though?

Chelsea were right to get rid of Raheem Sterling

Without a doubt, Sterling goes down as a great Premier League winger for a stellar career. His CV in England’s top division speaks for itself, winning the league title four times at Manchester City.

At the age of 30, Sterling’s form has completely left him, which is perhaps down to the fact he started so young at Liverpool.

Even though Chelsea have their own issues in wide areas this season, the decision to offload Sterling at the start of the season now looks vindicated. We wouldn’t picture him starting ahead of the likes of Pedro Neto, Jadon Sancho or Noni Madueke.

He’ll return to the Blues in the summer when his loan deal in North London expires, but Inter Miami are interested in signing Sterling.
