Pep Guardiola once said Cole Palmer has a ‘special quality’ that’s rare to find, it’s why Chelsea fans shouldn’t worry about his form
Even though it must’ve been difficult for Cole Palmer to cut ties with Manchester City a couple of years ago, the decision join Chelsea has worked out superbly well.
Cole Palmer joined Chelsea in the 2023 summer transfer window in search of regular first-team minutes.
At the age of 22, the creative attacker is already the talisman of the Blues squad, with his teammates relying heavily on him for goals and assists.
Chelsea defender Levi Colwill said he loves playing with Palmer because he makes his job easier.

What Pep Guardiola said about Cole Palmer in 2021
Back in 2021, Palmer was at Manchester City and starting to get rare first-team minutes after a promotion from their academy.
On 19 October 2021, Palmer came off the bench and scored during Man City’s emphatic 5-1 away win over Club Brugge in the Champions League group stages.
Guardiola said via Sky Sports after the Champions League performance: “Cole has a special quality in front of the box, a talent that is difficult to find. When he has the ball there, most of the time, it ends up in the net. It’s difficult to find that. I know how it works with young players. We have to be calm and patient.”
The fact that Guardiola recognised a “special quality” from Palmer in front of goal back then is very interesting. Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, the left-footed attacker has been scoring for fun, whether that’s as a No 10 or right-winger.
| Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Chelsea | 78 | 39 | 21 |
| Manchester City | 41 | 6 | 2 |
However, Palmer is going through his first real dip in a Chelsea shirt lately, failing to score in his previous 10 appearances across all competitions.
Joe Cole thinks Palmer needs experience around him to help get out of his goal drought.

Chelsea fans shouldn’t worry about Cole Palmer’s goal drought
Like Guardiola mentions above, Palmer is a specialist when he’s around the penalty area. It’s why supporters should have full faith that he’ll soon break this drought and the goals will start to fly in again.
There are nine games left in the Premier League to secure Champions League qualification. Also, the Blues are in the quarter-finals of the Conference League.
If Palmer can get any type of goal after the international break, we’re confident he can finish with a big flurry to finish the 2024/25 season.
