Fabrizio Romano explains what Borussia Dortmund are now trying to do with Chelsea loanee Carney Chukwuemeka
Chelsea will have a number of players returning when the season comes to an end from various loan spells across Europe.
Some of those individuals have a strong chance of being part of Enzo Maresca’s first team next season. Strasbourg pair Andrey Santos and Djorde Petrovic are amongst those under consideration to remain at Stamford Bridge next season.
There are players whose time away has not helped their stock though. Joao Felix is being seen as a failure in Milan, and the Blues will need to find another suitor if they are to part ways with him in the summer.
Another player who departed in January was Carney Chukwuemeka, after he found opportunities extremely difficult to come by under Maresca at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues were open to selling the youngster before the season even began, and were shocked that Chukwuemeka was still at the club when the summer transfer window closed.

Fabrizio Romano says Dortmund about to carry on talks with Chelsea about Carney Chukwuemeka
He has been on loan at Borussia Dortmund, a side who are going to struggle to pay the fee that Chelsea will demand to see him leave permanently.
However, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Bundesliga side would like to continue with Chukwuemeka in their ranks, and they are set to discuss the conditions of the deal again soon.
He said: “Borussia Dortmund will open talks with Chelsea to keep Carney Chukwuemeka also next season. Deal conditions to be discussed again, but BVB wanna try to keep Carney at the club after 6 month loan.”

Carney Chukwuemeka’s promising Dortmund loan
After getting over an early injury problem, Chukwuemeka has impressed when given the opportunity at Dortmund in 2025.
Manager Niko Kovac said Chukwuemeka changed the game for his side in a recent 3-2 win, and he has already found the net for his new side.
There is clearly a talented player in the former Aston Villa man, however the opportunities just don’t look set to present themselves at Stamford Bridge.
With the likes of Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez set to join the first team squad in the summer, it looks as if chances are going to be even harder to earn, and a move away would be best for his development.
