'Get him in': John Obi Mikel gives update on Victor Osimhen's thoughts on joining Chelsea

Chelsea are set to make signing a striker one of their priorities in the upcoming transfer window after a tough season in front of goal.

Nicolas Jackson has had a decent campaign, but the lack of options at the club outside of him became obvious in the two months he was absent.

The Blues very nearly added Victor Osimhen to their ranks in the final hours of the summer transfer window, after it became clear that he was out of the plans at Antonio Conte’s Napoli.

Chelsea made their best offer for Osimhen two hours before the deadline, however it wasn’t enough, and the Nigerian international took his goalscoring talents to Galatasaray on loan.

Games 32
Goals 28
Assists 5

Contributing more goals and assists than games played is a serious achievement, and no doubt makes the striker one of the top targets of many European clubs ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

John Obi Mikel has pushed Chelsea signing Osimhen as a narrative over the last couple of years, with the club legend wanting a regular goalscorer at Stamford Bridge.

His countryman said on the Obi One Podcast that Osimhen remains desperate to join Chelsea and attempt to replicate some of the feats completed by his idol, Didier Drogba.

He said: “Listen, it will be really sad if we don’t get a player who supported us a kid and wants to play for this Football Club.

“His idol is Drogba, he will want to break records, win us trophies, get us back to the top, come for Drogba’s records. I’m telling you that would be his mission.

“If the club chose not to pursue it.. then well fair enough, good luck to them, but the good thing about it is we know where we left it, we can literally pick the phone up and get him straight in the door. Get him in!”

It has been reported that Chelsea are considering making another move for Osimhen at the end of the season, however he is not the only striker who is on the shortlist in West London.

Other strikers Chelsea are considering signing

Many see Chelsea as the favourites to sign Liam Delap, who is set to be available for a cheaper price if his current side, Ipswich Town, are relegated as expected from the Premier League side.

There are a number of names on the list of potential targets though, with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres being considered after impressing for RB Leipzig and Sporting Lisbon respectively.

It remains to be seen what bringing a new striker in would do for their current starting frontman, however Matt Law predicted Jackson could be sold if a big name is brought in this summer.
