'Great players': Romeo Lavia says it's 'amazing' to play alongside two Chelsea stars following Everton win

Romeo Lavia has praised a couple of his teammates following Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Everton on Saturday.

Lavia was able to make his first start in the Premier League since January, with the midfielder now fully fit again.

It has been another season filled with injury problems for Lavia, but when the 21-year-old has played he has been able to make an impact.

Chelsea fans gave Lavia a standing ovation when he was taken off in the second half of Saturday’s game after putting in another fine display. Lavia, though, has been quick to praise his teammates instead of taking all of the credit.

Romeo Lavia enjoys playing alongside Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez

Mauricio Pochettino persuaded Lavia to join Chelsea instead of Liverpool in 2023, and Blues fans will be glad that he did.

A midfield of the Belgian, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez may just be the best in the Premier League.

All three footballers started in the Everton win and Lavia has since hailed the South American duo as “great players” while sharing how much he enjoys playing alongside them.

“I mean, they’re great players, so it’s amazing to play alongside them and I feel like we’ve all got different qualities,” Lavia told Chelsea’s official website after the match. “So all together it gives a good mix and I really enjoy that. So it’s good.”

Former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott also had some praise for Caicedo earlier this week, comparing the 23-year-old to Chelsea legend Claude Makelele.

Next season, if Caicedo, Fernandez and Lavia can all stay fit, then the Blues should have a good campaign. Looking at Lavia’s injury record, though, that if is a big one.

Enzo Maresca hails Romeo Lavia as ‘one of the best midfielders’ in football

While Lavia has been lauding Caicedo and Fernandez, Enzo Maresca has found time to give the Belgium midfielder some credit.

For the Chelsea head coach, a fit Lavia is up there with the best midfielders in the world.

Speaking to BBC Sport and others after his side’s win against Everton, Maresca said: “When he is fit, he is one of the best midfielders. He can defend very well, he can attack, he can break the line and pass between the lines.”

With Chelsea needing to take as many points as they can from their remaining four league games, hopefully Lavia does not pick up another injury. The former Southampton star is such a good option for them to have.
