‘We all know’: Enzo Maresca shares where Pedro Neto’s best position is after winner against Fulham

Enzo Maresca has been speaking about Pedro Neto following Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Fulham on Sunday.

Chelsea were bailed out of trouble by Neto and Tyrique George, with the former scoring the Blues’ winner after the latter’s equaliser.

At one stage during the game, Chelsea fans were chanting Frank Lampard’s name, clearly not happy with Maresca.

But in the end, Neto was able to secure all three points for the Italian and ease some of the pressure on him.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca thinks Pedro Neto is best on the right

Neto is a very versatile attacker and showed that at Craven Cottage on Sunday. The 25-year-old started on the left before moving to the right in the second half.

Neto has also played up front for Chelsea this season, with Maresca using him as a makeshift striker in the absence of Nicolas Jackson.

For the Chelsea manager, though, the Portuguese’s best position is on the right. Speaking to Chelsea’s official website after Sunday’s west London derby, Maresca said: “Pedro’s goal, we all know that Pedro is better in the right side but we also have Noni [Madueke], we have also Jadon [Sancho], so I try to decide game by game but Pedro is doing well since he arrived here.”

Before his goal, Neto had another shot saved by Bernd Leno. It inspired Neto to add more power to his decisive strike in stoppage time, which earned Chelsea the three points.

In total, Neto has scored four goals and provided four assists in 30 Premier League appearances this term.

Given his performances at Wolverhampton Wanderers and £54m price tag, Chelsea supporters would have perhaps expected a bit more from the Portugal international. But he has stepped up at a moment where the team really needed someone to.

Pedro Neto on playing as a striker

Being able to cut in with his left foot, Neto’s best position probably is on the right flank. However, that does not mean the former Wolves star does not enjoy playing up top.

When Neto spoke about being used as a No.9 in February, he said: “I don’t have to run as much running back. I have more energy to run in front. I have a free role as well to play there. I like to receive [to feet]. I like to go in the back. I’m really enjoying playing there.”

With Jackson fit again, though, you would expect Neto to remain on the wing for Chelsea’s remaining games of the season.
