Chelsea 'confident' they have beaten Manchester United to Liam Delap signing after latest talks with player
It has been no secret which striker Chelsea have put the most work into signing before the summer transfer window has even opened.
The Blues are very keen on signing Liam Delap after his excellent first season as a regular in the Premier League.
Despite Ipswich Town’s relegation, the Englishman scored 12 goals throughout the campaign, more than Nicolas Jackson managed this season.
And Chelsea got a first-hand viewing of Delap’s talents when he won a controversial penalty against the Blues during the festive period, converting from 12 yards quickly after.
They are not the only club who have been keen on activating the striker’s relegation release clause. Manchester United have been strongly linked with the deal despite his history at their rivals, Manchester City.

However, The Chelsea Chronicle understands that the Blues are confident they are going to beat the Red Devils to a deal following the latest round of talks with the player.
As we have previously revealed – Chelsea were confident in the offer to Delap and following fresh talks in the last week, they put forward their pathway and project to the Ipswich Town man.
They feel he is more than capable of being their first-choice striker, but they stayed short of promising him his place in the starting line-up.
Delap has made it clear he wants regular football at his new club as he makes a push for a place in England’s World Cup squad, and Chelsea believe he can achieve his international ambitions with them.
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca knows the player from his time at Manchester City, whilst Delap is also close to Cole Palmer who he played with at the Etihad when in the youth ranks.

Chelsea’s links to other strikers
Delap is of course not the only player in the striker position that the Blues have been linked with, as they push to get a deal done before the start of the Club World Cup.
Recent reports have strongly linked them to the potential signing of Hugo Ekitike, who outshone Delap during an U21s game between France and England earlier this season.
However, the Blues will need to pay around £85m for Ekitike, something which is surely going to become a stumbling block as they look to add in other areas too.
Delap makes a lot of sense from both a footballing and financial standpoint, which has been key in the eyes of the owners of the club when making decisions since taking over three years ago.
