Another name on Chelsea’s list for new winger after Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho links - journalist

Chelsea have been very strongly linked with the signing of a new left winger throughout most of the post-season so far.

It seems as if Jamie Gittens has emerged as their favourite target. A number of offers came in for him before the first transfer deadline before the Club World Cup.

However, they were unable to agree a deal before flying out to the United States, meaning they will have to revisit this deal later in the window.

Gittens is not the only target of the club in this position though. The Blues remain admirers of Alejandro Garnacho following their January interest, and could return to the scene for him should a move for Gittens not come off.

Nico Williams on Chelsea’s shortlist if they walk away from Jamie Gittens

Nico Williams is a target of a number of top clubs following his excellent few seasons for Athletic Bilbao and Spain. The partnership he has formed with Marc Cucurella for Chelsea has been sensational.

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to meet Williams’ release clause, and journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that the club could look to make a serious move for him should they decide to walk away from a potential Gittens deal.

He said to the Kings of the Bridge Playback: “Chelsea will continue talks over Gittens until the end of the month in hopes of reaching an agreement. Garnacho and Williams are on the list if Chelsea decide to walk away.”

Barcelona are not currently pursuing a move for Williams, with them previously seen as the player’s dream destination should he leave his hometown club.

Nico Williams vs Jamie Gittens stats

While Williams’ numbers actually regressed in La Liga last season, he made up for it with an excellent goalscoring campaign in the Europa League.

Williams vs Gittens 24/25 Games Goals Assists
Nico Williams 45 11 7
Jamie Gittens 48 12 5

With the Blues set to return to the Champions League, there will be a desire to bring in players who have experience contributing during top-level games.

Chelsea will no doubt be looking for a solution to their goalscoring woes in the wide positions, following the underwhelming numbers provided by Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke last season.

The Blues decided that they were not willing to sign Sancho permanently following his high wage demands, with him now looking for a new club in order to get out of Manchester United.

Gittens remains the favourite to move to Stamford Bridge, however Williams should be comfortably ahead of Garnacho on the list should a deal not be possible.
