New Chelsea signing Mamadou Sarr has just compared himself to 'tremendous' Liverpool defender

Chelsea have made another promising signing in Mamadou Sarr, who has joined the club from Strasbourg.

Chelsea agreed to sign Sarr from Strasbourg in January, but the Blues did not announce the deal until earlier this week.

Sarr joins Liam Delap and Dario Essugo as new additions, and all three could make their Chelsea debuts at this year’s Club World Cup.

Following his move to Stamford Bridge, the 19-year-old has answered some quick-fire questions, including which player he would compare himself to.

Mamadou Sarr compares himself to Ibrahima Konate

Chelsea were linked with Ibrahima Konate back in March, but there has not been much speculation since then.

However, after signing Sarr, the Blues may already have their own version of the Liverpool defender. When asked which footballer he would say he is similar to, Sarr responded with Konate.

Sarr is much younger than Konate, who turned 26 last month, but both men are the same height and hail from France.

If Sarr can defend anywhere near as well as Konate in the Premier League, then Chelsea would have snapped up a very good defender.

When fit, Konate has been solid for Liverpool. When former Manchester City player Micah Richards spoke about the France international after one game last season, he said on BBC’s Match of the Day: “There’s all these things he’s tremendous at — last ditch tackles he can do that, he can get back in, pace — no problem at all.”

Mamadou Sarr’s favourite Chelsea player of all time

Sarr was also asked to name his favourite ever Chelsea player and being a Frenchman, the former Strasbourg man went with N’Golo Kante.

Sarr will now be hoping to emulate the success that Kante had at Chelsea, with the midfielder winning the Premier League, Champions League and Europa League during his time in west London.

Moises Caicedo is also a fan of Kante, recently naming him in his all-time XI. Sarr would have loved to play alongside the World Cup winner, but Caicedo is certainly not a bad footballer to have in front of you either. Hopefully, he can help Sarr to make a successful transition from Ligue 1 to the Premier League.
