Scott Minto sweating over 'very strange' decision Chelsea's sporting directors could be set to make

Former Chelsea defender Scott Minto is not happy about one transfer rumour he has heard this summer.

With the transfer window open, Chelsea are once again dominating the headlines, with arrivals and outgoings both expected.

In terms of incomings, Brighton & Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro has decided to join Chelsea.

As for outgoings, the likes of Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke are not thought to be untouchable so could leave Stamford Bridge.

Scott Minto says Chelsea selling Noni Madueke would be a ‘strange decision’

Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley are the men in charge of transfers at Chelsea, and it looks like the two sporting directors could sanction the sale of Madueke ahead of the new season.

The Chelsea Chronicle has been told that Chelsea are prepared to let Madueke go. For Minto, that would be a very bizarre decision.

When asked if the Blues would be making a mistake by selling Madueke, Minto told talkSPORT: “Definitely, I mean I’ve seen that [rumour] and I don’t get it. Not only do I think he’s a very good footballer coming in, being that inverted winger on the right, but I’ve also seen him play on the left.

“I covered the game for talkSPORT at the Bridge against Manchester United where I thought, I think it was [Noussair] Mazraoui the right-back, he gave him a torrid time playing as an old-fashioned left winger on the left-hand side. So he’s very, very versatile.

“I know Jamie Gittens looks like it’s happening now, and I do understand that because Jadon Sancho’s gone back to United, [Mykhailo] Mudryk, we don’t know when he’s going to play again. But to get rid of Madueke when he looks like he could be one of Chelsea’s best players, I find that very strange indeed.”

Madueke was a key player for Chelsea last season, but the 23-year-old has slipped slightly down the pecking order in recent weeks.

He did not feature in the Blues’ 4-1 win against Benfica in the Club World Cup, with Enzo Maresca preferring Pedro Neto at this moment in time.

Scott Minto sends message to Enzo Maresca about Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto

Minto remains a fan of Madueke, stating that his preference would be to see both him and Neto starting on the wings.

At the Bank of America Stadium, Maresca went with Neto on one flank and Cole Palmer on the other.

On the same talkSPORT show, Minto said: “He dropped Noni Madueke. He’s a player I really like. I’d always want him to be playing on one side, Pedro Neto on the other.”

Chelsea were able to get the job done at the end of the day, which is the most important thing. But it will be interesting to see what happens with Madueke.

Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal are said to be keen on Madueke, though the Blues’ rumoured price tag could be a problem. It is thought that the Conference League winners want around £50m for the England international.
