Tyrique George makes claim on Chelsea future if Jamie Gittens joins the club this summer

Chelsea are getting closer to signing winger Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund after making him their number one target in the summer transfer window.

The Blues pushed hard to bring Gittens in before the Club World Cup, however were keen to not pay more than they needed to just for the tournament.

However, it has been reported Chelsea have given in to Dortmund’s demands and are now willing to meet their requested transfer fee in order to get the deal over the line.

The need for a new winger has come off the back of Jadon Sancho’s return to Manchester United, however it remains to be seen how it will impact the future of Tyrique George at Stamford Bridge.

Tyrique George not worried about his place at Chelsea despite Jamie Gittens interest

The Cobham graduate broke into the first -team squad under Enzo Maresca earlier this season, and scored his first Premier League goal at a crucial time in the turnaround victory against Fulham.

News of a new winger coming in just days after finding the net at the Club World Cup could easily be frustrating for George. However, he seems to not be too concerned.

He told the Mail Online that he believes there would be competition for his place whether a new option is signed or not, and he is ready to learn from his fellow wingers.

He said: “I’m not really focused on what’s going on elsewhere. When you’re at Chelsea, you just want to play. There’s always going to be competition whether they do sign one (a left winger) or not.

“I’m always ready to learn from them. I learn from all the forward players.”

Chelsea teammates really excited by Tyrique George

Despite having less than 12 months of experience as a regular in the first team squad, the young Englishman has already left a lasting impression on his teammates.

Marc Cucurella is extremely excited by George, having played behind him on the left-hand-side multiple times at Stamford Bridge.

Tosin Adarabioyo also tipped George for big things, and Chelsea supporters will be hoping the signing of a new winger does not signal the end of his time as a first teamer.

With Estevao Willian on his way this summer, and Geovany Quenda joining in a year’s time, it is fair to say George is going to have to put in some massive performances to remain under consideration for minutes going forwards.
