Alan Shearer admits he’d absolutely love to play in the same team as ‘powerful’ Chelsea player
Despite many people turning their nose up at this summer’s Club World Cup tournament, many Chelsea players have used it to enhance their reputations.
Chelsea have made it all the way to the final of the 32-team competition, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.
Blues head coach Enzo Maresca has used his squad very wisely to navigate through the Club World Cup. We’re expecting to see the strongest available XI against PSG this weekend, though.
Chelsea have earned around £86m for their run to the Club World Cup final, so the club’s hierarchy must be thrilled with how the tournament has gone so far.

Alan Shearer admits he would love to play alongside Pedro Neto
Alan Shearer, the former Premier League striker, has been majorly impressed by what he’s seen from Chelsea winger Pedro Neto at the Club World Cup. In fact, he admitted that he’s the type of player he would have linked up well with on the football pitch.
When discussing Chelsea’s Neto on The Rest Is Football, Shearer said: “I like how direct he is and how powerful he is running with the ball. He’s someone I would love to play up front with because I think in terms of being direct and knowing he’s going to get the ball in, I think he’s someone I would enjoy playing up front with. For me, he’s one that will and should start [in Chelsea’s best XI].”
Without a doubt, Neto has been one of the star players of the Club World Cup, delivering plenty of impressive individual displays en route to the final.
The Chelsea attacker, who’s capable of playing on either wing, is capping off a strong debut season with the club in some style. Incidentally, he’s scored nine goals and created nine assists in 50 games across all competitions in a long and memorable 2024/25 campaign.
| Appearances | Goals | Shots | Chances created | Pass accuracy | Successful crosses | Successful dribbles | Fouls won |
| 5 | 3 | 8 | 11 | 92.3% | 12 | 18 | 6 |
Benfica manager Bruno Lage hailed Neto as one of the best wingers in the world. When he’s on form, the Portugal international can torment any defender with his speed, dribbling and directness.
It’s exciting that John Obi Mikel predicts Neto will keep getting better as he emerges as a key player.

Chelsea strikers should love playing with Pedro Neto
The biggest giveaway that Chelsea’s forwards should love playing alongside Neto is that iconic striker Shearer has said just that.
Neto is a superb crosser of the ball and so direct with his play, which is why the likes of Liam Delap, Nicolas Jackson and Joao Pedro should thrive off his service. On top of that, Cole Palmer is always a bit deeper in the No.10 position creating things as well.
It remains to be seen what Chelsea’s strongest line-up will look like going into the 2025/26 season, but Neto is putting together a compelling argument that he’s the best winger at the club right now.
