Chelsea fans buzzing over FIFA announcement ahead of Club World Cup final vs PSG

Chelsea are just one win away from being able to say they are world champions.

On Sunday, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain will clash in the final of the Club World Cup tournament.

The Blues go into the weekend’s showdown as underdogs against Luis Enrique’s impressive PSG team. However, Enzo Maresca’s side should take major confidence from their form in the last couple of months, winning 13 of their previous 15 games across all competitions.

PSG manager Enrique admires Chelsea’s football under Maresca and is predicting a competitive final.

Of course, the Blues will need to be wary of the firepower that PSG possess, blowing Real Madrid away 4-0 in the semi-finals.

Chelsea fans delighted with referee appointment for Club World Cup final

On Friday, it was confirmed via FIFA’s official website that Australian referee Alireza Faghani has been appointed to officiate Sunday’s final between Chelsea and PSG.

Chelsea fans on social media are genuinely buzzing with FIFA’s announcement ahead of the Club World Cup final.

There are many Blues fans on X praising the referee’s appointment because he took charge of one of their matches earlier in the tournament. It will be interesting to see if the mood is the same after Sunday’s showdown.

One fan wrote: “Good ref. He allowed the game to flow. We’re winning.”

“He was relatively good to be fair. We’ll take that,” another said.

One supporter posted: “He was really good that game, favouring us. Hope he does the same again.

“Thank the heavens above it’s not the same ref that refereed our Flamengo game,” another claimed.

Alireza Faghani’s record at the Club World Cup

Faghani, 47, has refereed three games at the 2025 Club World Cup so far, including Chelsea’s 2-1 victory against Palmeiras in the quarter-finals.

The experienced official will now get the opportunity to take charge of Sunday’s final.

Chelsea’s key players to cause shock vs PSG

Without a doubt, Chelsea’s midfield engine room will need to be at their fluent best to match PSG’s outstanding trio of Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves.

John Obi Mikel highlighted Moises Caicedo’s importance to Chelsea, insisting the defensive midfielder is the individual that gives them a chance in the final. We believe that Enzo Fernandez could have an important role to play, too.

Elsewhere, Blues attacker Joao Pedro must go into the match full of confidence after his two-goal heroics in the semi-final win against Fluminense. Interestingly, PSG defender Marquinhos has raved about Pedro ahead of the final.
