Exclusive: What Chelsea are already thinking about Jorrel Hato as Blues 'confident' of striking deal with Ajax
Chelsea’s strong summer transfer window looks set to get a lot better in the coming days as they look to get another new signing over the line.
The Blues’ long-term admiration for Jorrel Hato has seen the club begin talks with Ajax over a potential signing, and now it looks like they are closing in on his signature.
Chelsea were seen as ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Hato, as a number of Premier League sides monitored the situation of one of the best young defenders in world football.
The Blues are in desperate need of adding some depth to their defence, with only Marc Cucurella a natural option to play left-back at the moment.
Chelsea see Jorrel Hato as the replacement for Renato Veiga

This is because of the imminent departure of Renato Veiga. Atletico Madrid are strongly linked with a move for Veiga, after he has decided his future is at centre-back.
The Chelsea Chronicle understands that Hato is being seen by Chelsea as a direct replacement for the Portugal international, who has only been at the club for 12 months. It is also understood that the Blues are confident the deal will be confirmed.
Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has explained that Chelsea see the Dutchman as a hybrid defender who is capable of playing left-back, exactly what they were originally looking for with Veiga.
Personal terms are reportedly agreed between Chelsea and Hato, and they may be boosted in their efforts to sign the defender with reports that Ajax could look to bring some Chelsea youngsters in on loan in exchange.

Veiga disappointed at Chelsea treatment this summer
While Veiga is reportedly keen on the move to Atletico Madrid, it has been said that he was not happy with how he was treated this summer.
The Chelsea Chronicle were told Veiga was unhappy he wasn’t going to get his chance to play at centre-back at Stamford Bridge, after what he thought was an impressive loan spell at Juventus.
The Blues are looking another direction though, and seem to have landed on Hato as the best option for the current squad under Enzo Maresca.
