'I still believe': John Obi Mikel's shocking reaction to Robert Sanchez's performance for Chelsea vs PSG

While Cole Palmer stole all the headlines from Chelsea’s Club World Cup final victory, a lot of praise needs to be handed to their goalkeeper for his performance.

Robert Sanchez has not always been the most popular figure amongst Chelsea fans, however he was absolutely brilliant in the 3-0 win over PSG at the MetLife stadium.

Even French media praised Sanchez for his performance in the final, with the attack seen as the best in world football unable to find the net against the Spaniard.

Criticism has come the goalkeeper’s way frequently this season, even though Enzo Maresca has given his backing to him as the number one.

John Obi Mikel says Chelsea still need new goalkeeper despite Robert Sanchez’s Club World Cup heroics

One of Sanchez’s biggest critics has been club legend John Obi Mikel, who has high standards of the club after his very successful playing days at Stamford Bridge.

Mikel tore into Sanchez after the semi-final win over Fluminense, however many will have believed there was praise coming the goalkeeper’s way after his performance.

While the former midfielder did credit Sanchez’s performance, he still stuck to his guns when he said the club need to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.

He told DAZN: “I still believe we do need a top, top goalkeeper. Robert Sanchez had a brilliant game today but going into the new season with the Champions League and the Premier League I think you still need another top goalkeeper that is going to come in and compete with him.”

Chelsea linked with top European goalkeeper

After a failed attempt to sign Mike Maignan before the Club World Cup got underway, it seemed a certainty that the Blues would look to bring in a new shot stopper.

Before the final against PSG, reports claimed that Chelsea were interested in signing Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was beaten three times in the final by the Blues attackers.

A spat broke out at the end of the game involving Joao Pedro, which saw the Italian goalkeeper have to be walked away by Maresca to allow his players to celebrate.

It would feel incredibly harsh right now to replace Sanchez, with his last few months showing obvious signs of improvement in the Chelsea goal.
