Mauricio Pochettino’s nightmare after leaving Chelsea continues as Argentine loses big game again

Things have not been going brilliantly for Mauricio Pochettino in the 12 months since he departed his role as Chelsea manager.

The Argentine was sacked despite leading the Blues back to European football in his only season at Stamford Bridge.

Their place in the Conference League was secured by Pochettino, with the tournament being won by his replacement, Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea fans cite the better fitness situation under Maresca as a reason for him being a superior manager, with them now having spent as long in charge as each other.

Mauricio Pochettino’s nightmare continues as USA lose Gold Cup final

After leaving the Blues, Pochettino was announced as the new manager of the United States Men’s National Team.

While results haven’t always gone his way since taking over, things reached a new low on Sunday night when they were defeated in the Gold Cup final against key rivals Mexico.

A disappointing outcome is something Chelsea fans were used to with Pochettino in charge. Many would point the embarrassing defeat against Liverpool in the EFL Cup final, where Gary Neville brandished them ‘Billion Pound Bottlejobs’.

Neville does believe Pochettino is happier after departing Chelsea, with the immense pressures that come with the job in West London.

His replacement is currently proving a very popular figure though, and has a good chance of leading them to Club World Cup glory with them currently sitting in the semi-finals of the competition.

Pochettino’s Chelsea record compared to Maresca

The Italian clearly had the better first season in the job, leading the Blues back to the Champions League and delivering silverware in the form of the Conference League.

Maresca is seen as untouchable as Chelsea manager, with the situation being explained as very different to when Pochettino was in charge.

A number of the players are beginning to form very close bonds with the man in charge, and new signings Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens have experience working with him in the Manchester City academy.
