Report: Unwanted £45m Chelsea player returns to training, he's already chosen his next club

The Chelsea first team squad are now putting in their final preparation ahead of the Club World Cup final on Sunday against PSG.

Those who are firmly in Enzo Maresca’s plans for the future helped them past Fluminense in the semi-finals, while a number of individuals they are looking to part ways with remain back in England.

A number of new signings have already made their mark on the side, with Joao Pedro scoring twice on his first start for the club in the previous round.

The former Brighton man has been signed to play a number of positions in attack, with him already showing that he can do a job in a false nine position.

The Blues have signed a number of players whose skillsets lend to this responsibility, with one of them in recent times being Joao Felix.

The Portugal international returned to Stamford Bridge in a £45m deal that saw Conor Gallagher go the other way. It is fair to say that neither player has reached their previously-set standards at their new clubs.

With Felix not being selected to represent Chelsea at the Club World Cup, it seems clear that the manager does not see him as someone who will play a role for them going forwards.

However, this has not stopped the club from having him in action at Cobham. According to The Athletic, Felix was part of a return to training for a number of players who the club want out this summer.

This includes Axel Disasi, Ben Chilwell and Renato Veiga, who are all out of Chelsea’s plans going forwards.

Joao Felix has already chosen his next club

Given the high price tag Chelsea paid for Felix less than 12 months ago, there will be an appetite to recoup as much of that as possible if he is to leave this summer.

A reunion with Benfica has been discussed as a potential option, although it remains to be seen whether they will meet the fee that Chelsea want.

Felix has said he wants to go to the Portuguese side, with there very much being a feeling of unfinished business there.

After spells now at Chelsea, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, it feels as if his time at one of the elite clubs in Europe has come to an end for now.
