Chelsea signing Jorrel Hato names his four greatest strengths on the football pitch

Chelsea completed the signing of Jorrel Hato over the weekend to continue their rich history with Dutch players.

It’s certainly been a hectic summer transfer window for the Blues, both in terms of incomings and outgoings, and Jorrel Hato sealed his move to Stamford Bridge from Ajax a couple of days ago.

Despite claims that Hato was on Real Madrid’s radar, the 19-year-old defender has completed a transfer to Chelsea, where he’s penned a seven-year contract.

The Netherlands international should fill a great role in the Blues squad because of their versatility to cover left-back and centre-half. Incidentally, Chelsea view Hato as Renato Veiga’s replacement, who provided great cover at full-back for Marc Cucurella in the first half of last season.

Jorrel Hato picks out his four greatest attributes

During an interview via Chelsea’s YouTube channel, Hato introduced himself to Blues supporters by describing his playing style.

When asked to name his best attribute as a footballer, Hato said: “I’m fast. I’m strong. I’m intelligent. I have a good pass in between the lines. I think they are the best strengths I have.”

Blues head coach Enzo Maresca played a key role in Hato joining Chelsea because he sold the youngster the exciting project in West London.

Even though he’s aged 19, the versatile defender arrives with plenty of experience and know-how under his belt. In fact, he made 111 first-team appearances for Dutch giants Ajax after breaking out of their academy.

Chelsea fans will love Jorrel Hato’s passing

Like Hato mentioned, one of his greatest skills is his progressive passing out from the back. We’re certain that Chelsea supporters are going to love watching him break the lines with his forward passes up the pitch.

The Blues fanbase enjoy defenders such as Levi Colwill because they get the ball forwards with purpose, so Hato should tick a major box for them.

Of course, Cucurella is in tight possession of the first-choice starting role at left-back. It is such a relief for the squad that Hato has arrived to provide cover and competition going into the 2025/26 season.
