Michael Owen predicts a Premier League ‘upset’ involving Chelsea
When asked about this season’s title race, Michael Owen gave his thoughts on the reigning top four.
Michael Owen is never short of opinions when it comes to the Premier League, and he has now made his predictions for next campaign.
Appearing on talkSPORT, Owen was asked about each of last season’s top four teams, and who he thinks has the best chance to win it all this year.

While his pick of Liverpool to finish first won’t surprise you, his views on who stands the best chance to upset the reigning champions might just.
Chelsea are ‘the big outsider’ in Premier League title race
Owen, like many others, is backing Liverpool to retain the title, but when asked who could upset the champions, he had this to say: “I’m firmly in Liverpool’s camp, if there’s going to be an upset, I think Arsenal and the big outsider is maybe Chelsea. I don’t think Man City can bounce back that quick.”
Given Arsenal’s consistency in finishing second in recent years, it’s not a surprise to see the former Liverpool and Man United striker putting them there again.
But the real surprise is the exclusion of Manchester City, who have made a host of quality additions with a manager who doesn’t make a habit of going trophyless.
As for Chelsea, being labelled the big outsider is not a bad thing. Given the age of the squad, predicting a Premier League title this early would be bold, but that’s not to say Enzo Maresca’s side can’t do it.
Having such expectations can put needless pressure on young players, who need to just focus on the football.
Chelsea can start strong again in the Premier League
Last season, Chelsea started well under new arrival Maresca, and it served them well as they weathered a couple of dips in form later in the season.
A similarly strong start is needed this season for the outside chance to become a reality.

The opening run of games is kind enough, with the toughest opposition coming to Stamford Bridge.
A big determiner of how Chelsea start will be how the new signings settle in, especially the potential additions of Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho up top, and the incoming Jorrel Hato in Chelsea’s back line.
So long as Maresca can again trim the large squad to a functional team, Chelsea could set themselves up for a competitive season at the top.
