Troy Deeney spots one thing Chelsea signing Jamie Gittens 'has to sort out' with his game

The arrival of Jamie Gittens at Chelsea this summer has perhaps gone under the radar.

Chelsea have made plenty of impressive new signings in this transfer window. For instance, Joao Pedro and Liam Delap quickly won over supporters because they joined in time to play a crucial role in winning the Club World Cup tournament this summer.

The Blues completed a deal to buy Jamie Gittens, 21, from Borussia Dortmund at the start of July, but he was cup-tied for the Club World Cup.

Chelsea were hugely attracted to Gittens, rating him as one of the best young wingers in the world. In fairness, he’s got the type of first-team experience that is rare in a lot of youngsters.

It feels significant that Chelsea believe Gittens can make an impact from day one, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see him start the Premier League opener at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

Troy Deeney claims Jamie Gittens can improve his end product

According to Troy Deeney, Chelsea signing Gittens could be a “perfect” match for England’s top division.

The former Premier League striker does admit that the 21-year-old left-winger can sharpen up his final ball, though.

Speaking on The Football Exchange YouTube Channel, Deeney said: “I love Gittens. I’ve been big on Gittens for a while. I think he’s perfect for the Premier League. He has to sort out that final ball, but I think that will come with age and experience.”

Gittens scored 12 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund last season, playing the majority of the time on the left wing.

The English youngster has incredible pace, dribbling and directness. If he can sharpen up his end product, the Blues may have signed themselves something quite special.

Even though Jamie Carragher suggests Gittens isn’t an upgrade on Noni Madueke, we’re super excited to see what he can deliver at Stamford Bridge. The very early signs are that he’s going to get the supporters off their feet with his style of play.

Jamie Gittens caught the eye in pre-season minutes

Last week, Gittens played his first set of minutes for Chelsea during two pre-season games. We definitely liked what we saw from the rapid winger.

Chelsea fans raved about Gittens after his unofficial debut for the club against Milan, where he looked electric off the bench with a fearless cameo.

It will be a different kind of challenge to replicate that in the Premier League, but he’s joined the club with plenty of experience under his belt.
