'Best decision': Emanuel Emegha explains why Chelsea announcement had to happen now
On Friday, Chelsea confirmed that they had struck a pre-agreement with Strasbourg to sign Emanuel Emegha.
The Chelsea Chronicle was told earlier this month that Emegha was under consideration during the summer transfer window following Liam Delap’s injury.
In the end, though, the Blues decided that the striker would be brought in in 2026 instead of this year.
Emegha has now revealed the reason why the deal was announced this week despite it not officially going through until 2026.

Emanuel Emegha didn’t want Chelsea rumours to distract Strasbourg
It is a big season for Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg, who will be playing in the Conference League, and Emegha has made it clear that he did not want any distractions around the team.
For that reason, the 22-year-old thought it would be best if his transfer was announced now to end speculation surrounding his future.
“I don’t want there to be rumours or things that can distract my team or me, so I think this is the best decision to bring it out right now,” Emegha said.
“Everyone knows my personality. It is not because everyone knows that I am leaving that I will change my behaviour or my work ethic. I am a guy who gives 100% every day for the team and for the club, and I will continue doing this until the end.”
Liam Rosenior will be disappointed to see Emegha go. He recently named Emegha captain, and the Dutchman is one of the team’s most important players.
From Emegha’s perspective, though, turning down the opportunity to join the world champions was always going to be difficult.

Emanuel Emegha’s stats so far this season
Emegha will be pleased with his start to the 2025/26 campaign. The Dutchman has already managed to score three goals for Strasbourg.
| Emanuel Emegha’s 2025/26 stats | Appearances | Goals |
| Ligue 1 | 2 | 1 |
| Conference League qualifiers | 2 | 2 |
| Total | 4 | 3 |
Last term was not bad either, with Emegha netting 14 times in 29 appearances. At Chelsea, though, he will obviously have to raise his level.
If Emegha remains part of Enzo Maresca’s squad, the Netherlands Under-21 international is going to be competing against Delap and Joao Pedro for a starting spot.
The latter is one of the most in-form centre-forwards in the Premier League right now. Pedro was excellent in August, being named in WhoScored’s Team of the Month after putting in some high-quality performances against Fulham and West Ham United.
The above is what Emegha could be up against next season, depending on what Chelsea plan to do with him.
