Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer equally impressed by 'effortless' Chelsea player

Cole Palmer has reminded everyone of his outrageous ability in the past week. As a result, retired England legends Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have both raved about the Chelsea star.

After his recent absence with a groin injury, Cole Palmer returned with a substitute appearance for Chelsea last Saturday during their 2-2 draw against Brentford. He completely changed the Premier League contest with an outstanding goal and an eye-catching cameo.

On Wednesday night, Palmer was his side’s best player in their 3-1 away defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, scoring another fabulous goal on his favoured left foot.

The alarm bells should be ringing for Manchester United as Chelsea prepare for their league trip to Old Trafford on Saturday. Blues head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed Palmer is fit despite appearing to hold his groin in the closing stages of the Bayern loss.

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer amazed by Cole Palmer

During a conversation on The Rest Is Football on Friday, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer both waxed lyrical about “effortless” Chelsea playmaker Palmer.

Lineker said: “He looks like he’s come back from that little glitch. A little injury at the start of the season. He’s just a beautiful footballer.”

Afterwards, Shearer replied: “His goal [against Bayern] – the way he carried the ball and then got the ball back – he made the finish look stupidly easy, which of course it wasn’t. It just looked effortless… He looks impressive again, doesn’t he, Cole Palmer?”

The fact that Palmer earned praise from German media after his performance at the Allianz Arena against Bayern highlights his excellence.

If Chelsea can keep him fit, they should be confident of enjoying a strong second season under Maresca. His knack of turning up and performing in the biggest games is becoming something quite remarkable.

It is fair to point out that his overall form slightly dipped during the second half of last season, and it was overdue because he’s been out of this world since his arrival from Manchester City in 2023. The rest of the Premier League should be worried that it looks like he’s back to his best after his injury setback.

Harry Kane’s assessment of Palmer is that the attacking midfielder will enter the world-class bracket if he continues at this current rate.

Cole Palmer will hope for a repeat against Manchester United

Back in April 2024, Palmer tormented Man Utd when Chelsea beat them 4-3 in the league at Stamford Bridge in emphatic fashion. The left-footed talisman scored a hat-trick during a memorable fixture, including a late winner in stoppage time.

After Chelsea’s dramatic win over Man Utd in the 2023/24 season, Jamie O’Hara predicted Palmer could reach Gareth Bale’s level as his career progresses.

Of course, the Blues talent still has a way to eclipse the five-time Champions League winner. However, we’ve seen Palmer go from strength to strength in West London to announce himself as one of the world’s most exciting players.

With the way that Man Utd are struggling under Ruben Amorim right now, Palmer could be the player to watch this weekend.
