South American reporter provides an injury update on Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo
Chelsea supporters may be tense over the international break, hoping that none of their star players pick up any injuries. Therefore, it’s worrying to hear that Moises Caicedo missed Ecuador’s 0-0 draw against Paraguay on Friday in a World Cup qualifier.
Without a doubt, Moises Caicedo, 23, is now one of the most important players at Chelsea, developing into a top-class defensive midfielder.
Caicedo is not for sale for any price, which goes to show influential he’s become at Stamford Bridge. We’re worried about his relentless workload, though.
After Chelsea’s win against Fulham last weekend, Caicedo signalled to Chelsea’s medical team he felt alright, even though it looked like he may have picked up an injury in the Premier League fixture.
It feels like the powerhouse midfielder is available to play nearly every game, so fans may be fearful that he just missed a match for his country.

Moises Caicedo expected back for Ecuador’s next match
South American reporter Maria Jose Flores reported that Caicedo and Gonzalo Plata would be omitted from Ecuador’s side for the World Cup qualifier against Paraguay due to “physical discomfort” for both players.
She wrote via X: “Moises Caicedo and Gonzalo Plata will not be considered for the starting role due to physical discomfort. I expect them to be back until the end. They are expected to fully recover for the match against Argentina.”
While Plata came off the bench for a short cameo against Paraguay, Chelsea ace Caicedo was completely absent from the matchday squad.
The good news for Blues supporters is that their midfield general is expected to be available on 10 September when Ecuador host Argentina in another World Cup qualifier.

Dario Essugo will be needed after international break
Chelsea have such a busy schedule after September’s international break, playing games in the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup before October’s internationals. Therefore, it’s unreasonable to expect anyone to play seven matches at full tilt in the space of 22 days.
While Caicedo is one of the first names on the team sheet, the Blues now have the option to sometimes rest him by bringing in 20-year-old teammate Dario Essugo as a similar profile.
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has been impressed by Essugo since his introduction to the squad. Now he needs to trust him in certain games to give Caicedo some time off the pitch.
