'I always have to': Alejandro Garnacho shares the instruction Enzo Maresca has given him for every game
Alejandro Garnacho has spoken about his role in Chelsea’s winning goal against Benfica on Tuesday night.
It was Garnacho‘s cross that was turned in by Richard Rios, whose own goal gave Chelsea all three points.
Garnacho was heard calling for the ball throughout the first half, and getting it out to him is what got Chelsea the win.
The winger has now shared how that bit of play happened, with manager Enzo Maresca key in it.

Alejandro Garnacho instructed to be at back post
Chelsea’s goal came from Garnacho being at the back post. He got on the end of Pedro Neto’s cross before sending the ball across goal, which Rios ended up turning into his own net.
Getting to the far side of the goal whenever Neto delivers is an instruction that Maresca has given to Garnacho, and the Chelsea manager wants to see that happening in every game.
“We always work on these movements,” Garnacho was quoted as saying by Chelsea’s official club website after the match. “When, in this case, Pedro Neto crosses, I always have to be there [at the back post] and then things like this can happen. This time it’s an own goal, but it’s still a goal and so it’s good.”
It was not only the 21-year-old’s attacking play that was good, though. Maresca was also impressed with Garnacho’s defensive contribution.
Garnacho will now be hoping that he has done enough to keep his place in the team for Saturday’s clash against Liverpool.

What Alejandro Garnacho has said about Benfica win
Chelsea lost their Champions League opener to Bayern Munich, losing 3-1 at the Allianz Arena.
Because of that, the Blues really needed to beat Benfica, according to Garnacho.
“I think it was a really big three points and we needed that after losing the first game, so I’m really happy,” the Argentina international said.
Chelsea’s next Champions League fixture is against Ajax. They will be without Joao Pedro following his red card on Tuesday.
The Brazilian is now the third Chelsea player to be sent off this season after Trevoh Chalobah and Robert Sanchez’s dismissals.
It is something that Maresca needs to address, as the 45-year-old cannot afford to keep on losing players to suspension, especially with the ongoing injury crisis at Stamford Bridge right now. Chelsea are missing several footballers currently, including star man Cole Palmer.
