Sources: How Chelsea chiefs reacted internally to Enzo Maresca's red card in Liverpool win
Chelsea’s unwelcome run of red cards carried on in their win over Liverpool, however this time it was not a player who was given their marching orders.
Enzo Maresca was sent off late in the game, after getting involved in mass celebrations following Estevao Willian’s late winning goal against the champions.
Mark Clattenburg praised the referee for making the decision, however the general consensus from fans and pundits was that it was a harsh call to be made.
Sending offs have been a real problem for Chelsea of late, with red cards for Robert Sanchez and Trevoh Chalobah costing them results against Manchester United and Brighton respectively.

Chelsea chiefs delighted at Enzo Maresca’s red card
While these will no doubt have gone down badly at the club, it wasn’t the same response when it came to Maresca’s sending off.
Graeme Bailey exclusively told The Chelsea Chronicle that those in charge of the club were delighted to see the passion on display from their head coach after what was obviously a very impressive victory.
He said: “Chelsea’s hierarchy, not that they aren’t taking red cards seriously, but they were unfazed by Maresca’s red card.
“They love the passion, they love what it means to him and everything the club coming together and so yeah they’re not blasé about any discipline, they want to make that clear, but with his red card they were more than happy to see.
“He wasn’t being marched into Todd Boehly’s office on Monday morning to have a slap on the wrist that’s for sure.”

Maresca to be backed in January
Before the season had even got underway, Maresca had made it clear he thought Chelsea needed a new centre-back in the summer transfer window, following the serious injury suffered by Levi Colwill.
The club decided that the boss had enough options, but injuries since to Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong has left many concerned at their lack of options.
However, reports have stated that Chelsea are prepared to sign a centre-back in January, finally acting on the manager’s requests from the start of the campaign.
