Jamie Gittens makes exciting prediction after first Premier League assist for Chelsea

Chelsea’s win at the weekend was a landmark moment for new signing Jamie Gittens.

The 21-year-old got his first Premier League assist for Chelsea’s opener against Burnley, finding Pedro Neto at the back post with a quality delivery.

It was a slow-ish start to life at Stamford Bridge, but Gittens is looking much more promising now and the £52 million fee looks better value with each passing week.

After a quality outing on Saturday, he spoke to Chelsea media about the game, and what he expects to happen in the coming months.

Who is Chelsea’s best winger?

Jamie Gittens is sure about one thing at Chelsea moving forward

It’s been a big change for Gittens, playing in England for the first time in his career after taking the Bundesliga route to develop.

Minutes have been inconsistent with plenty of competition for a starting berth in the Chelsea attack, but he is starting to take his chances.

Gittens opened his Chelsea account with a stunning goal against Wolves, and now has four assists in all competitions.

After another impressive display, Gittens did an interview for the Chelsea website, where he discussed his expectations going forward.

He said: “‘It feels good, but obviously I want to do more. It’ll take time to play with these great players in my team. I’m sure in the future I’ll be even better.

“As a team, we just want to win as many games as possible and hopefully contend for the Premier League title and other trophies.”

Gittens recognises he’s far from the finished product, but he’s on course to becoming an important weapon for Enzo Maresca, and it helps that he’s loving life at Stamford Bridge.

He continues: “It’s been really fun, to be fair. Every day I go in, I’ve got a smile on my face to see the boys.”

Gittens’ assist to Pedro Neto was a training-ground routine

Chelsea’s opener was a beautifully worked move that Gittens reveals was perfect execution of something they have practiced at Cobham.

Marc Cucurella was found over the top, before laying it off to Gittens for a looping cross to Neto at the back post.

As he explained: “That’s what we work on in training a lot almost every day, this type of cross that we do. It came off this time and I’m happy that it came off in the game.”

Gittens is making a case to start on the left over the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, though The Chelsea Chronicle’s predicted XI for Barcelona sees him on the bench, with goalscorer Neto and the well-rested Estevao preferred.

Will Chelsea beat Barcelona in the Champions League?

If Maresca elects for Gittens, though, there won’t be many complaints given his form of late.
