Wayne Rooney singles out £29m Chelsea star for praise and makes exciting 'superstar' prediction
Wayne Rooney’s old Derby County coach, Liam Rosenior, has now clocked up four wins in five Chelsea games since replacing Enzo Maresca as manager, and Rooney is excited by one of his players.
Rosenior would have certainly taken two wins in his first two Premier League games against Brentford and Crystal Palace, while also guiding Chelsea into the top eight of the Champions League against Pafos.
It’s been a solid start under Rosenior, with the feel-good factor back at Stamford Bridge under the new manager. He has been able to rotate and keep producing results even if performances aren’t perfect.
Two 9/10’s and an 8/10 for Enzo… Do you agree with our player ratings? 🔥
Four wins out of five for Rosenior!
That, and the new Chelsea manager is starting to get the best out of players who had stuttered under Enzo Maresca. Alejandro Garnacho, Joao Pedro, even goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, and now Estevao.
Wayne Rooney excited by potential superstar Estevao Willian
On Sunday, Estevao sparkled. He opened the scoring with a stunning solo goal, running half the pitch and keeping Demetri Mitchell at bay before finishing coolly past Dean Henderson. Then, he got an assist.

A gorgeous chipped throughball into Joao Pedro, who scored his second goal in two Premier League games with a strike under Henderson. Estevao was man of the match and Rooney was left impressed.
As an 18-year-old who broke onto the scene, Rooney was asked for his thoughts on Estevao on Sunday’s Match of the Day: “I’ve been really impressed, he’s a real superstar in the making. He was outstanding.
“Caused Crystal Palace problems all game. He stays out wide, and for someone so young to have that patience – sometimes you’re not in the game – but he causes problems. I really like his anticipation.”
Danny Murphy agrees with Wayne Rooney on Estevao
While it might be £29m Estevao’s first goal involvements under the new manager, it isn’t the first time he has impressed. Estevao also caught the eye in Chelsea’s 3-2 Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Arsenal.
Estevao’s best game in a Chelsea shirt?
Sensational performance from the Brazilian…
Danny Murphy was watching that night, and after Rooney’s analysis, Murphy agreed by claiming that Estevao is the first player he’s watched cause any kind of problem for Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber.
“I saw him live against Arsenal in the League Cup; he came up against Timber, and I’ve not seen anyone give Timber that many problems. So direct, so strong, he can go both ways. Agree, he can be a superstar.”
Napoli next for Rosenior, Estevao and Chelsea. It will have to be full strength for Rosenior this time, forget rotation and that means he has a decision to make out wide. Estevao, surely, retains his starting spot.
