Chelsea told the manager that would do an 'amazing job' if Todd Boehly sacks Liam Rosenior
The pressure is growing on Liam Rosenior, and with the international break underway, there is every chance that Todd Boehly wields his axe. If so, Nicky Butt has backed Frank Lampard to replace him.
One win in six Premier League games and an 8-2 hammering by PSG has plunged Rosenior’s future at Chelsea into doubt, after such a promising start. He’s matched Graham Potter’s Chelsea record for losses.
After 19 games, Potter had seven losses, and now, Rosenior has lost the same amount. Now, Sweden boss Potter would only last 12 more games, and that highlights the amount of pressure Rosenior is under.
Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea have no plans to sack Rosenior, but that the aim remains to qualify for the Champions League. Failure to do so, and Rosenior could be sacked. Could Frank Lampard replace him?
Nicky Butt backs Frank Lampard to return to Chelsea
Lampard, of course, has endured two difficult spells as Chelsea manager. The first involved a transfer embargo in which he was forced to play youngsters. The second, an interim spell under Todd Boehly.
Now, Lampard is shining as Coventry manager, with automatic promotion and the Championship title on the horizon. Butt told The Good, The Bad and The Football that Lampard would do an ‘amazing job’.

“Do you think if Frank Lampard gets promotion with Coventry they could go back in for Frank? He got the job too early the first time I think. He had the transfer embargo so he had to use a lot of young players.
“It wouldn’t be a stupid thing to go and get Frank Lampard back in charge of Chelsea for me. He’s done a great job at Coventry. He’s got a bit more experience now and he probably made a few mistakes.
“He would be a totally different manager now. He would find it easier working with better players, easier for him to get his messages across to more technical players. I think he’d do an amazing job, I really do.”
Frank Lampard’s two stints at Chelsea and Coventry situation
Lampard lasted 18 months in his first stint, winning 44 of 84 games, bringing through the likes of Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham. He got to the FA Cup final, but watched his side lose.
His second stint saw him encounter even more problems. A season that started with Thomas Tuchel, then Graham Potter and finishing with him. His Chelsea side would lose eight of just 11 games in charge.
But things are better for Lampard now, at Coventry. With seven league games to play, Coventry are nine points clear at the top of the Championship and 11 clear of Ipswich in third. Promotion is incoming.
Would Lampard give up the chance to have a crack at the Premier League with his Coventry side for a third stint as Chelsea manager? His brain will probably say no, but his heart will surely tell him to say yes.
