Report: Chelsea star can exercise clause to make Barcelona move this summer

As Barcelona begins to ramp up their pursuit of a new marquee winger, a secret clause in Pedro Neto’s Chelsea contract may have just handed the Catalan giants an opportunity.

Pedro Neto has been a hot topic at Chelsea this season. Some games, he’ll make fans question his quality, while in others, he’ll become the standout.

The Portuguese winger hasn’t helped himself at times. Pedro Neto’s red card against Arsenal was the perfect example of the discipline issues that have been present at Stamford Bridge.

However, he scored a hat-trick against Hull City and stood out against PSG.

Despite the inconsistencies, there’s new interest filtering in from Barcelona for the winger.

Pedro Neto can leave Chelsea this summer

A report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are contemplating a move for Pedro Neto when the summer transfer window opens.

They claim the good thing is that Neto has a clause in his contract that would facilitate his departure in case he wants to embark on a new adventure.

It’s also stated that It may play in his favour that his agent is Jorge Mendes, very well connected with the current Barça board and with Deco.

There are very good technical reports on Neto and it is obvious that he would make a leap in quality for Barca’s offensive play.

Should Chelsea sell Pedro Neto?

Selling Pedro Neto to Barcelona would be a significant gamble that prioritises financial profit.

Behind Estevao Willian, Neto is perhaps Chelsea’s most consistent wide threat under Liam Rosenior, with his ability to stretch defenses and his tireless work rate. With 10 goals and six assists this term, he has finally found the Premier League rhythm his earlier injury struggles hampered.

While a huge windfall would undoubtedly help Chelsea navigate Profit and Sustainability Rules, with UEFA issues supposedly, losing a proven, prime-age international could stall Rosenior’s project.

Of course, having Geovany Quenda joining in the summer would soften the blow, but it’s still brave.
