Chelsea manager target has picked his next club - journalist

Despite strong links to the vacancy at Chelsea, Edin Terzic appears set to take over as Athletic Bilbao’s head coach this summer.

Edin Terzic’s coaching journey stems from deep-rooted connection to Borussia Dortmund, where he rose from a scout and youth coach under Jurgen Klopp to leading the first team to the 2024 Champions League final.

He prioritises high-intensity pressing, a style that secured him the DFB-Pokal in 2021 and took the 2022/23 Bundesliga title race to the final minutes.

One thing that appeals to Chelsea is his ability to manage high-pressure environments and nurture world-class talents like Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland in the past.

However, despite a consideration from the Blues, Terzic won’t be heading to Stamford Bridge.

Edin Terzic to manage Athletic Bilbao

According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Edin Terzic is ready to sign with Athletic Club.

Chelsea have been linked with Terzic, though he’s just one of many managers who are supposedly under consideration for the vacant role.

When Borussia Dortmund played against Chelsea in the Champions League, Terzic mentioned just how much he noticed the crowd at Stamford Bridge.

“I think the first 10 minutes you can feel the power not just from Chelsea but from the stadium.

“After that, we came back into the game but they managed to score and we didn’t.”

Andoni Iraola’s Chelsea chances handed a boost

The pathway for Andoni Iraola to take the Chelsea helm has cleared significantly following reports that Edin Terzic is finalising a move to Athletic Bilbao.

Iraola had been rumoured to be returning to Bilbao, a place where he built his foundations.

Given that Chelsea are looking for a proven manager who has experience in the Premier League, Iraola fits the mould perfectly, but there are doubts over whether he would want to take the job.
