Former Chelsea manager has told BlueCo their project will never work - journalist

Frank Lampard knows Chelsea’s project under BlueCo better than most people.

He has worked under Chelsea’s new owners after an interim spell back in the 2022/23 season following the club’s dismissal of Graham Potter.

The Blues are looking for a new manager after another sacking, but their next head coach is unlikely to be Lampard, partly because of how he feels about the club’s project.

Frank Lampard has told BlueCo their project won’t work

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that Lampard has told Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali in the past that their project will not work.

As a result, there would have to be some serious changes if the Coventry City manager were to return to Stamford Bridge in any capacity, according to Phillips.

In terms of managers who could be in contention for the Chelsea job, Xabi Alonso, Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva have all been mentioned.

It has been reported that Alonso is emerging as a strong candidate for the Chelsea gig, with the former Real Madrid boss currently out of work.

Iraola and Silva are also set to be available when their contracts at Bournemouth and Fulham expire this summer.

Chelsea owners finally listening to Frank Lampard and others

Chelsea’s owners do appear to be taking the words of Lampard and their critics on board.

Most of the criticism that they have faced has been about the transfer strategy that has been implemented, but changes there are expected.

Since BlueCo took over the club, young players have mostly been signed. However, it is thought that Chelsea will target more experienced and mature footballers in the next transfer window.

Lampard and others are still likely to have concerns about other things such as the sporting structure at the club. The Blues currently employ five sporting directors, which is far too many. One problem at a time, though, with finding the right man to replace Liam Rosenior currently being Chelsea’s biggest dilemma.
