Report: £30m Chelsea signing certain he can still be a success despite underwhelming season

Liam Delap will be the first person to acknowledge that his move to Chelsea has not worked out so far.

Delap has picked up a couple of bad injuries and has only scored two goals in 37 appearances.

A lot of Chelsea fans have already given up on the 23-year-old, but he is ready to try to convince them of his quality.

Liam Delap convinced he can still be a success at Chelsea

While Delap is being linked to other clubs, he is not ready to call it quits at Chelsea, according to The Telegraph.

Their report claims that the player still believes that he can be a success in west London, though that looks difficult because of Joao Pedro.

Pedro is Chelsea’s first-choice centre-forward and is unlikely to relinquish his status as such any time soon.

In contrast to Delap, Pedro has been much more efficient in front of goal. In total, the Brazilian has scored 19 goals in 46 appearances.

In Delap’s defence, most of his appearances have come from off the bench. Had he not got injured at the start of the season and been given more starts, he would be on more than two goals.

Former club Ipswich Town could be an option for Delap if he does decide to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.

What Liam Delap should do if he still wants a future at Chelsea

Delap still wants to make it at Chelsea, it seems. Again, though, that is going to be difficult because of Pedro and the form that the £30m England Under-21 international is in.

However, it is not impossible. Things like injuries happen, so you never know when Delap may be needed.

With that being said, the former Ipswich man still looks very raw at times. He does not always hold up the ball effectively and often takes rash and off-balance shots.

If Delap wants to be a success at Chelsea and in the Premier League, his best bet is going out on loan next season. Playing at another club regularly can help him to rebuild his confidence, refine his game and rediscover some goalscoring form again before returning to Chelsea the following campaign, ready to make a difference.
