What Liam Delap truly thinks about his Chelsea future under Xabi Alonso
This week, a handful of Chelsea players have been linked with an exit. First Joao Pedro, then Enzo Fernandez and both Filip Jorgensen and Robert Sanchez, too. But where does Liam Delap’s future lie?
Clocking up 28 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, Delap scored just once. A dismal season that saw a future England international join the Blues, and end the season as another flop under BlueCo.
That goal came in a 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage, during Calum McFarlane’s first interim spell. It shows how little an impact Delap has had at Chelsea since his £30m move from Ipswich last summer.
Many questioned the move at the time and so it has turned out to be, a failure. Delap has become the main source of criticism for Chelsea fans on social media, so what does Delap think about his future?
Liam Delap ‘murmurs’ emerge with Chelsea spell under threat
There is some sympathy, amid all the criticism. Delap has had to play second fiddle and of course, he remains a young striker still learning his trade. But there are question marks over if he is good enough.

Football London say they have heard ‘murmurs’ over Delap’s stance on his future at Chelsea. Fernandez has made it clear he wants to go, Jorgensen has handed in a transfer request but Delap wants to stay.
Indeed, the report indicates that with Alonso set to arrive as the club’s sixth permanent manager under the current owners, Delap is hopeful he can convince the former Liverpool star to give him another shot.
Plenty of Premier League interest in signing Liam Delap
There are plenty of clubs interested in raiding Chelsea and saving the striker of his Stamford Bridge nightmare. Chelsea, though, are unhappy that Delap is not interested in joining Strasbourg this summer.
Five Premier League clubs are supposedly looking at Delap, including Manchester United and Everton. More recently, it has been suggested that Chelsea considered using Delap in a deal for Bruno Guimaraes.
It is unclear how much Chelsea would charge for Delap but given he is on a long-term deal and remains a young, English player, the chances are Chelsea would only sell if their initial £30m outlay is matched.
