What sources close to Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk are saying about his future
Mykhailo Mudryk has not been seen in a Chelsea shirt since November 2024, although sources close to the player believe he could be back in action as soon as next season.
Mudryk was banned by the FA in January 2025 after testing positive for a banned substance, and has not featured for club and country since.
Shakhtar Donetsk’s CEO believes the Ukraine international will return to action, however he has now been handed a four-year ban.
Sources close to Mykhailo Mudryk believe he could be back next season
Mudryk has appealed this verdict, with it currently unclear as to whether this will see him banned until the end of 2028.
Despite the threat of a ban, and the prospect that Chelsea would have the ability to terminate his contract if the ban is not reduced, sources close to the player are confident he could be back in action next season.
Nizaar Kinsella told BBC Sport: “If Mudryk’s ban is upheld by Cas, he would be unable to play again until roughly December 2028, as that is four years since his provisional suspension began.

“But if the ban were to be reduced by Cas, he could be back on the pitch in a much shorter timeframe. Sources close to the player believe he could be back in action as early as next season.
“Chelsea would be able to terminate Mudryk’s contract once the Cas process has concluded, given an anti-doping ban constitutes a breach of employment terms in most footballers’ contracts.”
Chelsea and their supporters have been through a similar situation before, with the club sacking Adrian Mutu after a positive test for cocaine back in 2004.
Chelsea have failed to replace Mykhailo Mudryk in their first team squad
Mudryk was enjoying his best run of form for the club under Enzo Maresca before he was banned, finding success particularly in the Conference League.
With him unavailable, Chelsea signed both Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens to play on the left of attack, with neither pulling up trees so far.
They have a combined one Premier League goal between them, and Garnacho is already being linked with a move away from the club.
Chelsea need to address this position in the upcoming transfer window, although may struggle to attract the big names if they do not qualify for the Champions League.
