Xavi’s stance on managing in the Premier League after being discussed by Chelsea

Barcelona legend Xavi is reportedly keen on managing in England, with Chelsea having mentioned his name in discussions over their new head coach.

The Blues are prepared to wait until the end of the season to name their new manager, leaving Calum McFarlane to lead the side following the sacking of Liam Rosenior.

Originally it was believed that Chelsea were looking to hire a manager with Premier League experience under their belt after too many experimental hirings.

However, Xabi Alonso has continued to be mentioned as one of the favourites, and now fellow Spaniard Xavi’s name has cropped up.

The former midfielder has been out of a job since leaving Barcelona in 2024, but journalist ‘MaxFSport’ has stated he is ready to return to the dugout, and wants that to be in the Premier League.

He said: “Xavi is looking for a long term project and wants to manage in the Premier League. Xavi has been analysing teams and reflecting on his past during a break from football. Some whispers he has been a name discussed internally at Chelsea.”

There is a Spanish theme to a lot of Chelsea’s targets to take the job. Behdad Eghbali is reportedly keen on Andoni Iraola when he leaves Bournemouth this summer.

Xavi has credentials Chelsea are looking for

The Blues need to hire a manager who knows how to win, and they will likely be fans of what they see when it comes to this particular candidate.

Xavi won a host of honours in Qatar, and was successful in winning La Liga once during his stint at Barcelona, as well as the Spanish Super Cup.

It has been close to two years since Xavi has been in charge of any club, giving him plenty of time to decide on which job he believes is the best to welcome him back into football.

Many would likely steer Xavi away from Stamford Bridge, however there is a plethora of talent just waiting to be maximised by the right manager.
