David Silva names former Chelsea midfielder as the toughest opponent he faced in his career

David Silva faced Chelsea many times in the Premier League during his time at Manchester City.

There is no doubt that Silva is one of the greatest players that the Premier League has ever seen.

On his day, no one could really stop the former attacking midfielder. However, he has admitted that there was one ex-Chelsea star who did make life really difficult for him.

David Silva names N’Golo Kante as toughest-ever opponent

Silva was recently asked to name the toughest opponent he can remember facing before his retirement in 2023.

In response, the Spaniard told Kanal Sportowy: “[N’Golo] Kante“. His answer will not shock many, with Kante being one of the finest defensive midfielders of his generation.

Chelsea have tried to replace him after his exit a few years ago, bringing in Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Caicedo has not done a bad job at all and was arguably the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League at one stage last season.

However, Caicedo has not been as consistent as Kante and does not have his trophy cabinet. During his time at Stamford Bridge, the Frenchman was able to get his hands on the Premier League, Champions League and Europa League trophies.

N’Golo Kante’s record against Manchester City

Chelsea are on a miserable run against City right now. They have not beaten them since the 2021 Champions League final, which is astonishing.

Kante was still at Chelsea when that run started, but he has at least had some success against City in the past, such as that famous night in Porto.

In his career, Kante has faced City on 16 occasions as a Chelsea and Leicester City player. He has won eight of those meetings, lost seven and drawn one, according to Transfermarkt.

The France international has also managed to score a couple of goals against Silva’s former side, including a powerful strike in a 2-0 win back in the 2018/19 season.
