‘Confirmed’: Thiago Silva’s scan reveals which Chelsea games he will miss due to injury – journalist
Journalist Tom Roddy has claimed that Thiago Silva’s recent scan revealed that he will be forced to miss the games against Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund due to injury.
The Brazilian was forced off against Tottenham at the weekend due to a knee problem, after he attempted to play on in the first half.
Lengthy treatment had already ensued, meaning Chelsea fans were fearing the worst.
They have already seen a number of their important players miss large portions of the season due to injury.
N’golo Kante hasn’t been seen on the pitch since the second game of the season, while Reece James and Ben Chilwell have also missed large sections of the campaign due to injury.
Their influence on the team is certainly rivalled by Silva’s, with every successful centre-back pairing this season involving him.
He has recently struck up a strong partnership with Benoit Badiashile. However, his inability to feature in the Champions League has left Graham Potter assessing a number of his other options instead.
Silva to miss two games
Roddy has now confirmed that the Brazilian will not be present for the next Champions League game either, proving a massive blow to Chelsea’s chances.
He said: “Chelsea fear Thiago Silva will be out for potentially defining week in Graham Potter tenure.”
He replied to this with: “Not likely to be a long-term absence but Silva will miss these games. Scans have confirmed that.”
It means that it will likely be a centre-back pairing of Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly, both signed last summer.
The Frenchman has been stepping up his recovery from injury with consecutive appearances of more than 45 minutes off the bench.
This duo completed the game against Spurs, and it’s fair to say the quality certainly dropped after the captain on the day was taken off.
Victory over Dortmund next week would already have been Chelsea’s most impressive of the season, however doing so without their best defender makes it an even larger task for Potter to achieve.
