‘The feeling’: Fabrizio Romano shares what rival players think about Chelsea’s future under Todd Boehly
Fabrizio Romano has claimed on the ‘House of Champions’ podcast that players within football believe Chelsea will be fighting for big titles within the next year.
Right now, the Blues are holding on to hopes of a miracle Champions League win by the skin of their teeth.
Without that, it will be an extremely unsuccessful campaign that will almost certainly be without finishing in a position to qualify for Europe again.
They will need to turnaround a 1-0 deficit to Borussia Dortmund, a defeat they suffered in Germany despite a dominant showing.
Familiar struggles of not being able to put the ball away came back to haunt them again on the big stage. Joao Felix in particular was guilty of missing a couple of guilt-edge chances.
Rival players back Chelsea under Boehly
It will take their best display of the campaign to turn it around, with it being needed at a time they are arguably at their weakest.
Chelsea have just two wins in 17 games in all competitions, hardly scoring any goals in that time either.
Despite the unlikeliness of achieving anything this year, Romano has claimed that players in world football are still confident Chelsea can compete for the very top honours under Todd Boehly.
He said: “The feeling within the world of football, the football industry and also on player’s side is that Chelsea will be there again to fight for big titles and back in the Champions League next year if not this year.”
The American is likely to spend big again in the summer, after it has been claimed that top players have not been put off joining them in the upcoming transfer window.
However, a win against Dortmund that could potentially breathe life into their season would certainly not go amiss.
