'Dangerous': Oliver Skipp admits Tottenham tried to stop 23-year-old Chelsea player getting the ball yesterday
Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp has claimed to Match of the Day 2 that his side worked hard to stop Joao Felix getting the ball yesterday.
Chelsea were defeated again after falling to a 2-0 loss at the hands of their London rivals.
The result sees their form move to just two wins from their last 15 games, with it being another game where they didn’t find the net either.
A lot of their good play in the first half came through Felix, as it so often has since the 23-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge in January.
However, it appears Spurs had a plan to stifle Felix. Skipp has claimed that there was a conscious effort to not let him get the ball and turn with it.
Spurs worked to shutdown Felix
He said: “We knew that Joao Felix would play kind of in between the midfield and the defensive line so we tried to create not much space between the defensive and the midfield line because we have seen in previous games that he was dangerous, if you could turn in the half space.
“I think the defensive line really helped us with that. Occasionally either Eric or Romero would step out and engage with him, so it allowed me or Pierre to step on to either Enzo or Loftus Cheek.
“There was different tactical aspects and I think second half we got it much better. First-half maybe we gave them too much respect in terms of the pressing, but second half we used the energy of the crowd more to create that pressure.”
The result brought yet more pressure onto Graham Potter, with supporters firmly calling for his time at the club to come to an end.
However, reports have claimed that the former Brighton man is still set to be given time to turn things around.
