‘Just walked past’: Journalist shares update on Thiago Silva’s injury after seeing him after full time yesterday
Journalist Carrie Brown has claimed to beIN SPORTS that Thiago Silva did not look in too much pain when she saw him after yesterday’s game.
The defender was forced off injured in the first half, after attempting to play on following an issue to his knee.
He was replaced by Wesley Fofana, who is still establishing himself after his own injury problems ruled him out since October.
While his return is great news, the loss of Silva could be massive for their fortunes in the coming weeks, especially looking ahead to the Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund.
While Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly are both fit, they have both looked far stronger when alongside the Brazilian. Meanwhile, Benoit Badiashile is not in the squad for European games.
Brown may have given supporters some hope though, when she revealed what she had noticed when Silva walked past her after full-time.
Positive signs for Thiago Silva
She said: “Thiago Silva, Chelsea fans will be glad to see, has just walked past us and didn’t seem to be limping too badly, he didn’t seem to be wearing any brace.”
With his importance to the side never being higher than it is right now, there’ll be prayers for him to be fit enough to face Dortmund in a couple of weeks’ time.
There may be an argument that Chelsea could switch to a back three, played dominantly under Thomas Tuchel, while Silva is out.
With Ben Chilwell back from injury now, Marc Cucurella’s place at left-back looks tough to get back. However, there is an argument he could feature again in a back three if the situation requires.
His form has made him extremely unpopular with Chelsea fans right now, but a chance to feature in a less attacking role may be ideal for the Spaniard.
