Chelsea are not ruling out signing £40m PL striker who Mikel Arteta says is 'extraordinary' - journalist
Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on his Substack that Chelsea have not ruled out signing Ivan Toney in the summer.
This is despite the imminent decision regarding his upcoming gambling charges.
While all that is going on in the background, the Englishman has continued to be one of the best strikers in the Premier League this season.
Toney is currently the third top scorer in the league, behind only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane in the charts.
His fantastic campaign has been mirrored by his club, Brentford, who are currently pushing for a finish in the European places.
His abilities have not escaped some of the best in the league either. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has previously described him as ‘extraordinary’.
Chelsea not ruling out Toney
A combination of Toney’s fantastic ability in front of goal as well as the fact that he plays for a club traditionally a level below the top has suggested that a move could be on the horizon soon.
Phillips has claimed that Chelsea have not yet been put off by his potential ban, and could still make a move for him.
He said: “Chelsea are not ruling out Ivan Toney either, despite the current situation around his gambling charges. They are prepared to be a bit patient and wait to see what happens there.
“Chelsea do still like Dusan Vlahovic, Jonathan David, and Kolo Muani are also being monitored by Chelsea.”
A striker will certainly be on the agenda for Todd Boehly this summer.
Despite Kai Havertz’s recent glut of goals, he has failed to prove in the long run that he is able to provide on a regular basis.
With more and more creative players being added to the squad, someone to finish off the chances is becoming an essential signing.
