‘He’s been excellent’: Danny Murphy can’t believe Chelsea are even considering selling ‘unbelievable’ player
Danny Murphy has claimed he cannot believe that Chelsea may sell Mason Mount this summer.
He told TalkSPORT that the 24-year-old would get in the team for Manchester United or Liverpool, two sides who have reportedly been interested in signing him.
Talks regarding a new contract for Mount have come to a standstill in recent weeks, despite both parties wanting the player to remain in West London.
Poor form this season has left the jury out for supporters on whether they want the England international to remain at the club. This is despite impressing for a number of years now, even being described as ‘unbelievable’ by Joe Cole.
With the likes of Joao Felix impressing in a similar position since he joined in January, there are plenty who would prefer some funds to bring him in on a permanent basis.
Murphy can’t believe Chelsea may sell Mount
Murphy does not share this opinion however, claiming that the ability Mount has shown in his time in the first team should be enough to avoid being sold.
He said: “You are talking about a terrific player, I am a big fan of Mason Mount. The criticism this season has been fine because he has had a poor time, as has the team. But he has been at a huge club for four seasons and three of them he has been excellent.
“The fact is he is going to have a choice, because nearly all the big clubs are in for him. They are in for him because they can see what a talent he is. From a football perspective I think he gets in Liverpool’s team and Man United’s team.”
There is still reported optimism from both parties that an agreement can be reached to extend Mount’s time at Stamford Bridge.
If the Englishman is sold, it will almost certainly be to a direct rival, a move which will be strengthening a team they are looking to overtake.
