‘Just in time’: BBC Pundit believes 22-year-old returning from injury was timed perfectly for Graham Potter
BBC pundit Garth Crooks has claimed that the return of Wesley Fofana may just have saved Graham Potter’s job at Chelsea.
The Frenchman made his first start since October at the weekend, as the manager rolled the dice one last time in an attempt to save his job.
Potter elected to line up with three at the back, as he looked to get the best out of some of his players.

One player who certainly brought his best was Fofana. Not only did the former Leicester City man score the only goal of the game, but he provided a monumental defensive display as the anchor of the back three.
With Thiago Silva out for a number of weeks, Potter will have been looking around to see who would step up for him to lead from the back.
Crooks has claimed that he may well not have a job anymore if Fofana didn’t take this responsibility, as he named the youngster in his Premier League team of the week.

He said: “Getting a striker to score a goal in open play these days for Chelsea is about as tough as it gets. It took French defender Fofana to score and that was from a set piece. Not that there is anything wrong with relying on set plays – it simply suggests your team is struggling to score from open play.
“Fortunately for Chelsea, Fofana came back from injury as Thiago Silva sustained his. However, Fofana is in the team just in time to face Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night in the Champions League.”
While Potter may have kept his job for now, he will face the challenge of impressing the owners with a remarkable turnaround against Borussia Dortmund tomorrow night, where they need to overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit.
